How to Choose an Ibogaine Center

Choosing an ibogaine facility can be a daunting process. There are so many to choose from so how can you found the one that’s right for you? Here are 5 main things (Safety, Spiritual vs. Clinical, Experience, Programs and Intuition) you can consider to help you choose an ibogaine center. If you have any additional questions, please contact us.]

1.  Safety First

The first things to consider are the safety protocols of each iboga center. Do they require tests before they accept you for treatment? Do they have a doctor on site for the treatment? Do they have emergency medical equipment and medications? How far is the nearest hospital? The staff should be able to give you answers regarding their safety protocol. If any center does not require at least an EKG and blood work with liver panel, DO NOT GO THERE. There should always be a doctor present at all treatments and the center should minimally have a portable defibrillator, oxygen, IV equipment and emergency medications. You are putting your life in the hands of strangers so don’t be afraid to ask questions and be thorough.

2. Spiritual or Clinical

The second thing to consider is whether you want a spiritual or clinic environment. Many centers, especially those with a focus on detox and addiction treatments use ibogaine in a very clinical way – there are no ceremonies, just you in a room with medical staff checking on you every so often. If you are seeking a program for spiritual growth or to address conditions like depression, anxiety or PTSD then an ibogaine center with a spiritual focus may be a better fit. Get to know a little about Bwiti, the spiritual tradition that surrounds iboga use and see if it is something you feel connected to. Either way, there are plenty of options regardless of if you gravitate toward a clinical or spiritual setting.

3. Experience

Ask your providers about their experience with iboga(ine). Have they done a ‘flood dose’ themselves? How long have they been working with the medicine? Why did they get involved in working with ibogaine? If it is a center that offers ceremonies you can ask if they have been initiated in Africa or what is their connection to Bwiti. Who are the staff? Do they have reviews or previous guest testimonials? Use google – search the names of the facilitators and the center to see if there have been any negative experiences reported. Ask lots of questions.

4. Programs

Explore what different centers offer in their programs. Do you feel the program is a good fit for you? What is the facility like? Are there pictures of the ibogaine center on their website? Are there any kind of amenities such as a pool, beach nearby, spa etc. Do they offer any additional therapies in the iboga retreat? Some centers offer things like yoga and massage. Is there any kind of follow up or integration included? Do you feel the program is genuine and made to support your health and growth? Do you feel that facilitators have your best interests at heart? There are just some of the many questions you can ask to determine if you feel the program schedule is the best fit for you.

5. Trust your intuition

In the end, trust your gut. It all comes down to how you feel. Take your time, don’t rush and see which center resonates with you the most. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and let you intuition guide you toward the center that is best for you.
